How often should we be exercising?

Regular exercise can have many positive benefits to your physical and mental health. It can;

  • Reduce your risk of a heart attack
  • Lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers
  • Create stronger bones, muscles and joints
  • Give you more energy
  • Improve your sleep patterns

Exercise can include, walking, swimming, dancing, going to the gym, climbing stairs and so much more.

So how much exercise should I be doing to benefit my health? Doing any type of physical activity is much better than doing nothing at all.

It is recommended by the department of health that we should all be participating in up to 5 hours of moderate physical activity during our week to benefit our health – that’s less than 45 minutes each day!!

This includes two days of strengthening activities which can include Pilates, weights, using resistant bands or even gardening – this is what keeps us nice and strong.

Remember when starting to exercise, it is important to start off gently and gradually build up until you have reached your optimal daily exercise. It is a great idea to see your local doctor or Osteopath before starting a physical activity program. Book an appointment with us today on 9878 3122 at Blackburn Osteopathy

So, let us benefit our mind and body health by being a little bit more active each day.
